Did he happen to mention the format of the saved file? If it's MP3, he
might have to pay royalties to the current patent holders. He could use
something open and royalty free. GPL'd format like OGG Vorbis.

of Ham Radio IMO.
It has better sound quality at lower bit rates as well.
