Why not connect the K3 to a second soundcard on your PC and use one of the many free programs for recording?

Myself I've coded up MP3 on Windows, would like to use .WMA format but don't understand it properly. Ideally I would save audio in .WMA format with embedded info such as date and time, frequency, mode etc.

A project to be started when there's nothing else to do, probably ready when the K4 appears.

Did he happen to mention the format of the saved file? If it's MP3, he might have to pay royalties to the current patent holders. He could use something open and royalty free. GPL'd format like OGG Vorbis. (http://www.vorbis.com/) Would be much more in line with the philosophy of Ham Radio IMO.
