That's true.  But if you don't have a QSK amp,
using PTT to switch the radio from RX to TX,
send the memory (CQ, Exchange or QRZ) and
immediately back to RX is the next best thing.
No VOX delay hang time.

FWIW, a good friend of mine and super CW OP/Contester/DXER (past-pres of NCCC) was a strong advocate of the CW PTT, esp if running the linear.
