The R5 can be ground-mounted. It will exhibit very acceptable SWR across all of its 5 bands when mounted close to the ground. However, my experience has been that elevation increases its effectiveness proportionate to its height. Going from ground height to 25 feet improved signals by about an S unit.

Hi - Does any one know if a Cushcraft R5 vertical can
be grounded mounted and how high off the ground would
it need to be. I've only used mine in the past mounted
on the roof but at the current QTH I won't be able to
get it up there until the spring. 73's Norm K9NK
