K7LXC and N0AX did comparison testing of several verticals and presented the results at the Dayton Hamvention in 2000 (copies of the report are available from . One of the models they tested was the R8, which is built in a similar manner to the R5. I recall they had the base mounted about 7 feet above a ground screen. The results were (in my opinion) better overall than for the other types they tested.
