I alternate between a pair of light, behind the head, "Walkman" style headphones and a venerable AKG headset.

Both give me clear audio. The major limiting factors at present is the amount of noise on both 80 m and 40 m. Headphones won't clear this up, but DSP techniques help.

The major differences between the two types of headphone are:
The behind the head style is light, allows air to circulate around my ears which is good in the hot weather, and also allows me to hear my wife when she wants something.

The AKG are comfortable, has a microphone which will possibly work after I make up an amplifier, have pads which fit over the ear, and so block out extraneous noise and my wife.
