Ah, in the true ham spirit! :>) Then for now I'd suggest just
skipping the K3's mic gain stage.
The mic gain stage gives you an easy front panel control and the line
out a defined level for the input of the "black box" was my thinking...
I thought it was worth floating the idea - maybe Wayne will like it,
maybe he won't.
