Since the radio is as modular as it is, and most of us actually did the assembly, swapping boards by mail to upgrade should certainly be a possibility.

Just like he would with Yaecomwood. Except that the layout of the K2 is open, it's easy to disassemble, component density is low, and -- ultimately -- you will have complete documentation.
