DW,

Just walk through the authorization steps - if you don't have an internet connection, use the phone. I have done it many times. The only thing they want to know is how many machines your copy is running on - if the answer is 1, they will authorize it. It sometimes takes a bit of effort, but it gets the job done - and legally.

I have done it several times when a motherboard or hard drive has died - in addition to my own 5 XP machines, I maintain 10 XP computers on our church network, and I have had to re-load XP several times over the past few years - the process may be a bit lengthy, but never any real problem.

While Ubuntu is a viable alternative, there are several applications that I like (Ham Radio Deluxe for instance) that will not work on Ubuntu, so I stick with Windows 2K and XP.

Hello,

Thank you for all of the great responses I have received.

The copy is not an OEM specifically for one machine. I'm not trying to use it on two machines at the same time, my old one broke. It gives me a message that I have 30 days to register it before it stops functioning.
