Dave, There are a number of online resources to help ease the pain of SMT soldering/desoldering.
If you have access to older QRP magazines, there were many tips in them. AMQRP.ORG has useful info online. If one is new to these, I would suggest a practice run on some dead/obsolete computer board. You can goof up and learn for free.
