Doesn't that mean 2-3k $ worth left unguarded on your doorstep?

And Elecraft refused to send mine by mail, since it couldn't be insured. (UPS is quite exotic around here and strictly oriented to businesses. Mail is much more convenient.) Must be a reason for that. Looks like unfaithful insiders in U.S. Mail must be a much larger problem than passers by stealing from people's doorsteps.
