Thanks to all people who responded on and off-list to my questions.
I've looked at the K3 schematics and have come to the conclusion that
the problem most probably is that the digital signal driving the
subreceiver's MAIN/AUX relay isn't arriving at the subreceiver. I'm
going to check the subin ans subout boards to see whether all pins
are connected okay.

If you study the document at
http://www.elecraft.com/K3/K3_Antenna_Routing.pdf you'll clearly see that
the switching of K1 (Main/Aux) has nothing to do with KAT3. KAT3 only
switches between Ant1/Ant2, which doesn't concern you.
