Well, I must partially recant my recantation.  After posting that  
email, I went to another band and noticed the data mode was AFSK-A.   
In fact, on every band EXCEPT the one I was on when I did the firmware  
down/upgrades (20m), the data mode was AFSK-A.

I tried shuffling the firmware again, but could not reproduce.  All  
bands stayed on DATA-A.
