Hi, The Bose noise cancelling phones work GREAT for repetitive noise like fan noise, rain on the roof (right W0YK?) and other things like that. I have the QC2 having recently upgraded from the QC1s. They are the around the ear model and the muffs have great noise reduction themselves. Fred
