The KSUB is a USB to serial adapter. The USB side goes to your computer, 
the other end goes to the serial connector on the back of the K3. Do you 
need it? Only if you don't have a serial port on your 'puter. There's 
nothing special about it. I used a cable I already had.
I got the TCXO for the reason you mentioned. I just wanted it.
