But any of the improvements can and should be done when merged!

What seems important for me is that compatibility with the Carbon port is maintained. That is, the mac-* variables should work in the same way (even if they might be called ns-* or so). Otherwise, there'll be a lot of pain amongst users of Carbon when they switch, and even more pain for me. But even this can be tackled after the merge!

Once the merge is done, I will start doing regular builds (together with Aquamacs code), and that is guaranteed to produce a number of bug reports (and fixes).
