    That's slightly inaccurate: the vertical scroll bar does not
    disappear, at least not in all GUI applications.  What happens is that
    the scroll-bar _thumb_ disappears.

I guess you're right. Funny; I was thinking the whole thing went away.

    If this can be easily done in Emacs, perhaps we should do that
    too, but I wouldn't press for it before the release.

It's certainly not important.

    Btw, I'm quite sure that some applications never make even the thumb
    disappear, for example the command prompt window in Windows.

I can't really claim to speak for "most applications", anyway. I was
thinking of Windows dialog boxes (e.g. Outlook mail messages) and Web
browsers, in particular.
