I see. I didn't know that this private list was on the web for all to
see.
Well, it's not really a private list since the subscription address is publicly available on the web and there's no validation of new members. I'd say that this list is about as public as a mailing list can get.

What a shame. I run many lists for other orgs and the archives are
closed to the public.
Emailer-Talk's archive has always been available to the public, hasn't it? The old archive disappeared a long time ago, but I don't think it required any kind of login or password.

As far as what other orgs do, I don't doubt that many of them keep their archives private. But many also make their archives available to the public. You should see the number of list archives available at <http://www.mail-archive.com/lists.html> alone!

I never heard of *that* list....so someone lifted the message, once
again, without permission which is just as bad as a spammer..
It appears to have been posted directly by you, although I see now that the mailing list is actually the "maclabmanager mailing list". I'm not sure why it's archived under "Assimilator".

Again, only on private lists, and the address was "lifted" and placed
elsewhere by someone OTHER than me...
I'm not familiar with the maclabmanager mailing list, but I thought that the MacMarines mailing list was just as public as Emailer-Talk.

And as far as public archives go, I don't think you can claim that someone else "lifted" your address in those cases.

But regardless, my point wasn't that you were -- or were not -- responsible for the divulging of your address. Rather, I was just demonstrating that in your case, your address is already publicly available, so you can't assume that a spammer must have joined our mailing list and is actively harvesting addresses.
