You can use Sherlock to search for any file whose name ends in .html Scroll through to make sure this doesn't include anything you want to keep. Choose "Select All" from the Edit menu, then "Move to Trash" Then close Sherlock and empty the trash. Now your Dowloads folder should contain just the jpgs and miscellaneous stuff and should open okay.
