Regarding the question if there are any installation issues with QuickTime, there has been a lot of posting on Apple Discussions regarding a file installed by QuickTime 5.x which can cause problems, apparently, with the desktop and displaying desktop pictures. The following advice, quoted from a recent post on Apple Discussions, is typical of the fix advice: "QT 5.0.x adds a new file, which causes that sort of problem; it also can slow down redraws of the desktop, and slow the Mac in general. Look in the QuickTime Extensions folder (it's a separate folder in the Extensions folder) - locate a file in there named QuickTime JPEG Update; try removing it and restarting. So far no one has posted any adverse effects from removing that file. ...When setting desktop pics make sure you click the Set Desktop button. "
