I'm not very knowledgeable about attachments but something like this happened to me. If I got the story right, their server was adding the .hqx for some reason even though the file wasn't binhexed. At the Windows end, I think they detached the file and changed the suffix, then they were able to open it. The other way they might be able to open the file (assuming it didn't just get scrambled by their server) is to again, detach the file from the email, then open up a word processor (they could try SimpleText if they don't have Word) FIRST, and open the file from within that program, using the menu. I am told this nearly always works. If it doesn't work, try re-sending the file it may be corrupted. Recently I've had more problems with pdf files arriving corrupted so this isn't all that uncommon.
