About a week ago, I ask for help solving a problem of receiving several copies of messages from the server. Each time Emailer would retrieve my messages I would get the same messages over and over. Well tech support at my ISP, MSEN, seems to have found the problem. I have copied their diagnosis below in hopes that others may avoid the frustration that I went through.
>This is the problem. You are exceeding the disk quota for your mailbox, >and the download process is not able to put the "old mail" back into >the standard mailbox. Since the write fails, the marker that states >what is old vs new is not updated. This leaves an extra copy in the >temp directory, and it gets downloaded again the next time you check >your email. > >So, turn the "leave messages on server" down to 1 day, and it should >work better. Eventually, you might need to turn that part off completely. I should also mention that this problem only recently surfaced, and it is because of the increased number of spams that I receive. The same tech person also pointed me to steps to take through their service to filter spam before it gets to me.
