Use the contextual menu to mark the selected messages as read or unread. I do that all the time when I need to remind myself to do something with a message I have already read, so I mark it as unread. Usually after I check out my Suspect folder, I select all and mark them all as read. There are many uses for the idea of marking mail as either read or unread but this is the easiest way to do it quickly.
