For everyone who offered suggestions - Thanks! 

Apparently (after calling up daughter last night) it was merely that she 
didn't have a floppy drive for her iBook (the Indigo clamshell model). So 
when she and her hubby get spring break, they'll come by here and picky 
up my LaCie external USB floppy drive. That and the AppleWorks and 
MacLink Plus filters (version 12) should allow her to load in, make 
changes and then save back out in Word format, right? Anyway, she's 
supposed to be sending me a file of the kind she's talking about and I'll 
test with it. She didn't *really* want to change, just didn't know what 
she needed to get the job done.
