Thanks for the comments...

Adding senders to the address book only works after the are "qualified." 
This is ok if the mail is only coming from known sources - such as family 
& friends & subscriptions - but not useful to us since much of our mail 
is from previously unidentifed - but legitimate - senders.

I was referring to PowerMail - not CE. PM does not show a "Read Mail" 
folder for an IMAP connection to AOL. I'll check again re the 
read-vs-unread status of mail in the IMAP-AOL In Box - I may have faked 
myself out by the fact that I've been running test with PM and EM in 
parallel, along with AOL web mail and the AOL Mac client!

I tried Entourage for a short time - but not long enough to evaluate its 
filter actions...didn't care for the "feel" of it.
