These are all available in Word under the Insert>Symbols but one cannot automatically insert them into Emailer like you say PopChar does.. They are also in the Mac OS X System Preferences> International and Input Menu then Select Show Keyboard Viewer but they will not go automatically into any document without doing the Key Strokes.
At least I don't think they will.

I didn't come across any mention of the very useful utility called
PopChar
which, when installed, shows up as a tiny speck in the upperleft-most part of the top of your screen and when clicked produces a drop-down menu of numerous special characters. By selecting a character, it automatically becomes inserted into the text.

I don't remember how I acquired it, but it was a freebie download.
