One serious reason to avoid Verizon Online: They've suddenly decided to block virtually all incoming mails originating in Europe, Russia, Japan, and other parts of Asia. No explanation, no notice, no apologies, just selfish, block-headed attempt to thwart spammers. They're not even bouncing mail back to senders overseas, so they're in the dark, too.

Use the phone if you need to contact Europe, says a Verizon PR guy quoted in Wired.com. Support reps asked me to supply IP addresses of all SMTP servers I'd like to be unblocked, then wait 2 to 4 weeks for change to go into effect! Class-action suit underway, I've read, and message boards aflame.

  All this for $45/mo.

I am looking into an alternative service called Runbox.com, run out of Norway of all places - $30/yr. Yahoo, too. But I am open to suggestions.
