the hard part with "non-engineers" contributing is they won't understand how to read the specification, assuming you will write one. the feature input will be valuable. Fortunately, we have an excellent template to copy in Emailer, if 99% of the work was copying it identically, fixing a few bugs/OS X issues, you will have succeeded.
