Hey, as long as its a Brit picking on the colonists, we should ask him why they can't seem to get "is" vs. "are" right. :-)

Watching BBC news last night on the terrorist bombings, I heard a few things that would have caused me to deduct points for grammar when I was grading college papers. Unfortunately, I can't think of a one of those current examples, so I'll fall back to my old standards.

They say the team "are" expected to win their division. We saw the team "is" expected to win. They say Parliament "are," while we say Congress "is."

Dammit, there is just one Parliament, so its singular. Why can't these English speak proper English?

Oops. I guess it was their language before it was ours, so maybe we are the deviants.
