I am humored by these. I've been repairing computers since the end of the 
70's, start of the 80's. I can count the number of times I've bothered to 
actually wear a wrist strap (a few dozen)... and with all the thousands 
upon thousands of components I've handled and computers I've had my hands 
inside... I can count the number of times something has been damaged by 
static... exactly ZERO.

And I'm a person that gets shocked every time I touch something that is 
grounded, so clearly I must build up static in my body easily. And I've 
never ever damaged anything from static.


That said... be sure to buy that wrist strap and wear it any time you 
have your hands inside a computer. As soon as you listen to my 
experience, and go without one, will most certainly be the time you fry 
something.
