Nope, RTF won't work either in Claris or Apple Works but it does work
in Word Perfect.
I guess I'm going to insist as you Chris and others have suggested that
they upgrade.

So I'm at a loss to know how to put a Word or ID file into Claris or
Apple Works.
1. I'd have Word save the files inRTF (Rich Text Format), which their
preferred apps should be able to open.
B. If they were =my= students I'd =require= that they accept PDF
documents... unless there's need to open/modify them. In that case RTF
should work -- it's always been the linga franca for me.
