This is my first post using Apple Mail. I've used Claris Emailer
since 1995 but I'm trying to get away from my complete dependency on
"Classic" applications. It's going to be a slow process but this is
the start.
I've put it off for two years since Apple Mail couldn't do what I
wanted (I thought) but an Apple Mail expert has provided the "secret"
that I needed. When setting up an account you can hold down the [alt]
key while clicking [+] and that will create a new account window
without all the tortuous checking and spinning cog wheels. This has
allowed me easily to set up additional "dummy" send-only accounts for
mailing lists like this.
Anyway, this is hopefully being composed as plain text (not "rich
text") and going out with the correct "from" address.
I have tried various other OSX email clients, all of which have been
found wanting, so I've fallen back on Apple Mail as the best
compromise. For the last two days my computer has been tied up while
importing most (not all) of the folders from Claris Emailer. It got
slower and slower as (I think) Emailer ran out of memory. Eventually
I had to force-quit but everything that was transferred appears to be
intact.
I've spent all day setting up accounts, rules and mailboxes.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is it possible to change the order in which the folders appear
down the column? Yes, they are alphabetical but can I drag them out
of this order? (Well obviously I can't but is there a way to achieve
that?)
2. I've set MAIL to work like Claris Emailer which opens a message in
a new window. Is it possible to get arrows in the message menu bar so
I can easily click to the next/previous message?
3. When I highlight text in an incoming message and click "Reply" the
highlighted text does not get carried over into the reply window. I
tried the option to transfer ALL text, which works fine, but is not
what I want. I can copy the text then "Paste as quaotation" but
that's an extra two steps and I'm fundamentally lazy! Am I missing
something?
4. Can Apple Mail use scripts? I don't see a Scripts menu icon.
5. Is there a mailing list for Apple Mail?
