Mark,

You're not alone. I've just discovered the same issue, running CE in
Classic with OS 10.4.7. I've tested .jpg and .pdf attachments with a
space in the name sent from Mail and picked up in CE. These arrive
truncated, e.g "for me.jpg" arrives as "for" and "tuna and ricotta
fritters.pdf" arrives as "tuna". If I send from and pick up with CE, the
attachments arrive as sent. If I send with CE and pick up with Mail, the
attachments arrive as sent. So, I agree with what you found, it seems to
be confined to CE receiving attachments sent by Mail when the attachment
name has a space in it.

I don't know if it's connected or not but about 2 months ago CE suddenly
started having trouble downloading attachments. I've been trying to find
a solution but no luck so far. The behavior is erractic and there seems
to be no consistancy to it. The usual scenario is an attachment starts to
download, gets about 1/3 complete and then stops. The download rate goes
down to 1.28 k per second. If I leave it, CE eventually times out. After
a lot of testing, I've found that to get the email & attachment I have to
"try" to get it 3 or 4 times, then wait about 40 minutes, then it comes
flying through as it's supposed to. If I wait the 40 minutes without
"trying" to get it, it doesn't download. Very, very
occasionally, downloading works on the first try !

If I use MAIL there is never a problem with downloading attachments, so
I'm assuming it is CE or perhaps Classic or both, but can find no
corruption. CE sends attachments without problem. My ISP does not support
CE and felt it couldn't be their fault when I told them MAIL worked
flawlessly.

Yesterday I installed a fresh copy of CE, did not transfer anything from
my old program and still had the problem. It was just by chance that the
first email test I did on my new CE happened to be an attachment with a
space in the name.
And that's how I discovered the truncation problem you were reporting.

If anyone has any ideas about my downloading problem, I'd appreciate any
input as I've tried everything I can think of and am not getting any
closer to a solution.

Thanks,
Irene
