Thanks for all your ideas Chris. I ruled out resetting etc the router as I had already done all that to no avail. I don't have any Windows stuff on the machine.
So, I backed up my HD and then, before looking into how to zero it ( a new one on me!), I tried reconfiguring the ethernet speed setting to 10baseT/UTP half-duplex. Which immediately cured the problem whether connected via ethernet or airport. WOW - is it ever fast now!!!! Now I shall zero away and see if that fixes the HD problem. The interesting thing here is that Disk Utility likes any bootable copy I make onto an external drive - it is only the new internal that is showing the volume probs. Thanks so much again, Tannis ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe send a mail message with a SUBJECT line of "unsubscribe" to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
