Like Emailer, (unfortunately), I cannot make hierarchical files -- folders within folder: I would like to do that.

You could do subfolders in Emailer, and you can do them in Mail.app as well. Just create a new mailbox (folder) in Mail, then drag it to the folder you want it to become a sub of.

PS for the grand prize (do you like ginger snaps?) how can I open my Apple Works 6 files, transfered over to the MacBook OSX, from my iMac OS9, but unopenable? I think I can open one at a time by changing it to a "dot doc", but I'm wanting a way to be able to open them ALL. Smell those ginger snaps.....

You could install AppleWorks 6 on your new Mac and run it, then you don't need to convert anything. Otherwise, you need either a program that can open AppleWorks format files, or convert them. MacLinkPlus I'm sure can convert them, as for opening them, you can check out OpenOffice, it *might* but I honestly have no idea.

You could also open them all on your older machine in AppleWorks and resave them in some other format.

As for simply changing the extension to dot doc, that probably won't work. That would just make OS X think it is a Word document, and then Word would try to open it, but it will likely try to open it as a word doc which would fail. Assuming word can open them (supports the AppleWorks 6 format) then you can do get info on any one of them and set it to open with Word and then click the option for setting all files of that type to open with Word.
