acemi,

Thanks for updating the Wiki, but it seems those instructions are already
obsolete, as I was not able to install linux-source-2.6.17. I tried
proceeding with linux-source-2.6.18, but obviously got something wrong.
Below is what I got when trying to follow those steps.

(2.1)
apt-get install linux-source-2.6.17
Generates the following error:
----------->
Package linux-source-2.6.17 is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only
available through another source.
E: Package linux-source-2.6.17 has no installation candidate.
-----------<

I substituted
apt-get install linux-source-2.6.18
followed by
apt-get install linux-patch-debian-2.6.18

(2.3)
tar xjf linux-source-2.6.18.tar.bz2 => tar xjf linux-source-2.6.18.tar.bz2
ln -s linux-source-2.6.17 linux => ln -s linux-source-2.6.18 linux

(2.4)
Folder 2.6.18 already exists, as does sub-folders apply, debian and unpatch.
I did not do the mv commands.

(2.5)
There is no corresponding hal-linux-2.6.18-i386-1.3-08.patch file. I edited
hal-linux-2.6.17-i386-1.3-08.patch, but not sure if this is correct.

patch -p1 <
../modules/rtai/base/arch/i386/patches/hal-linux-2.6.17-i386-1.3-08.patch
Gives error "Can't find file to patch at input line 5196...", then prompts
for file.
I entered yes for "Skip this patch".
Then gives error "Can't find file to patch at input line 5209...", then
prompts for file.
Again I skipped this patch.

I get error messages such as:
1 out of 2 hunks FAILED...

(2.6)
I am probably already dead due to the errors in the previous step, but
proceded to see what would happen.

There is no config-2.6.18... So using config-2.6.17-2-686

Otherwise no problem.

(2.7)
Running make-kpkg --append-to-version -rtai \ ...

Results in pulling up menuconfig again. I just entered exit.

This generates a bunch of errors like "#endif without #if" and finally
errors such as:
make[2]: *** [arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s] Error 1

I would appreciate any hints as to what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,
Eric
