You have hardware in your box that 6.06 doesn't support? >I guess updating 6.06LTS that works with EMC2 2.1.5 now isn't worth >the hassle now. Most certainly its worth it, 2.2.5, while requiring a reconfigure, is both faster and smoother than 2.1.5, a new stepgen option now allows the reset pulse to be sent to the hardware in the same main loop cycle that does the set pulse, this means that the main loop can be slower (it used to be a cycle to set the step pulse, and then reset it the next cycle=2 cycles for one step), making more time available for other things, and still able to drive the steppers at a higher rate than before. Or said anther way, the steps speed notches that can cause a stall because of the difference in the speed from a one cycle change can now be made less, allowing higher actual working speeds. I used to hear my little micromill doing discreet speed changes that were pretty obvious above 10ipm, and which are smaller increments and more smoothly done at 20ipm now. With everything loose, I can move 35+ ipm, but not of course under load. >What is waiting a few days for the update compared to the eternal >milling time of a complex shape? ;-) Some of that bit of eternity can now be tuned away. If you have a net connection to that box, emc version 2.2.5 is only a "sudo adept" session away. That net connection is worth every penny of the cost of the cat5 strung across my back yard & plugged into a port of my 8 port switcher here in the house. I can't recommend it enough. You could also carry the box to the net, but that isn't near as handy as being able to log into the continuous IRC session these kind people have, and get advice for a problem in real time while actually on the same machine. Real Time Troubleshooting, even if the trouble is PEBKAC. In my case it has been, several times. >On 4/28/08, John Kasunich <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> Mario. wrote: >> > Is this the Ubuntu 8.04 version with AMD64 support? >> >> Not yet. >> >> EMC 2.2.5 is a version of the program EMC.
