When it crashes what are the symptoms? can you move windows? move the mouse pointer? does the caps-lock light still work? Do the step pulses continue or stop? Have you tried disabling screw compensation? You say you think it's involved - please share why you think this and what you have done to test. I don't get the crash here so please share all the information you can.
