Screens would be a problem. Gateway makes a line of machines called the
Profile.
It is basically a laptop guts but no keyboard. The computer is behind
the LCD.
The Profile 3 is a favorite of Stuart Stevenson's. Some of the later
models (4, 5 and 6)
have a big base with the computer in it. One problem with these is the
screens are
EASILY destroyed, and so a lot on eBay have either discolored spots or
total destruction of the screen.
But, they have 1 GHz Pentium CPUs and a perfect parallel port. These
are real good for
installation in old CNC control cabinets, and there are touch screens
available that work well
with them. The glass-plate touch screen also protects the LCD.

Dell and HP also make "thin client" boxes that are incredibly small, and
I'm pretty sure the Dells have par ports on them, not totally clear on
the HP. Most of these are diskless, but if they will boot off a USB
drive, they should work.
