See 0f38a96f.  This is a lot more tricky than it seems at first.  You
can't change the length of entry moves and expect that you'll still
line up with the previous pass.

It's even a bit risky to change the length of the exit moves, because
you'll get a different velocity profile.

I agree it takes more space to do inside threads this way, and it's
cosmetically a little weird, but the thread is cut correctly, which
I think your change would sacrifice.
