Oh, students... aka bright people with a great deal of curiosity and boundless energy who seemingly can find as much time and as many co-conspirators as it takes to pull off something they see as cool and who as yet have a poorly formed sense of responsibility for their actions.
I used to make my incoming summer co-op students nervous. This was back in the day when our agency's computer resources and network connectivity were still exceptional. I'd hand out and discuss my list of "Kent's Komputer Kommandments." It started with "thou shalt not steal software nor by action or inaction allow others to do so" and continued through items that included acceptable use of multimedia, email etiquette, and maintenance of system and network security, and generally reminded them not to do anything that gave even the appearance of impropriety. I could tell they weren't deeply impressed by this from the way their demeanor changed when I ended by staring into their eyes and intoning "or we will hunt you down and shoot you like a dog." It's not that I thought I could deter a determined person, only that I wanted to establish an understanding. My lab wasn't a dorm room and misdeeds would have real-world consequences.
