Kent,

You got it in one.  What confused me is that the example program runs 
out of the box in the axis_mm configuration...  And no, I did not read 
the code since I'm only trying to turn the crank and not try to figure 
out what the program is doing.  So, I aggree with your rant.  If you 
wanted to use this as a teaching moment then it would be better to, and 
Kent notes, have it in a tutorial, or set up a separate configuration 
tree to teach specific issues (like toughing off, and what can happen 
when you don't).

As a note, it was my understanding that the examples where supposed to 
just run out of the box, so I assumed that it was a bug in LinuxCNC.  It 
also seems like I am not the only one to get tripped up by this...
