The Mesa boards can do just about anything my boards can do, possibly 
needing a
bit more configuring through the configs files, but all the 
functionality is there.
With my boards, they are pretty much fixed-purpose, ie. analog servo, 
stepper or
PWM servo, 3 different products.  With Mesa, add-on boards and modules
configure it as you want it.  That does allow you to mix and match different
motion technologies with one board.
