let me add the list of parts which cannot be used without either massaging the
author, or not at all:

- GP Orcullo's picnc driver: licensed as GPL3. Author agreed to relicense.
Asked him yesterday. Reason for integration: I want this in, and I want to stop
yet another case in the making where a certain contribution doesnt fall within
the personal interest of gatekeepers, and hence falls on its face like lots of
other contributions before.

- https://github.com/renenglish/pb2json protobuf2json converter, one direction
only. Potentially helps the away-from-NML transition, and Javascitpt UI's.
Bugged him today #2 times in 2 months to license in liberal terms (has no
license at all, but author promised he will attach some, hopefully compatible).

- http://code.google.com/p/corbasim/source/checkout, which contains a C++
JSON/protobuf translator which does both directions. Same reason as above.
GPL3. asked author first time today. gut feeling: relicensing unlikely.

That is my prodding list of _the last two days_.

Of course there are alternatives, tick your box:
- reinvent basic supporting functionality 'in a clean roomed way', bugs and
maintenance obligations included
- keep using NML until the cows come home (in 2 of the above cases)

If we keep dragging feet, at some point we will have a crossover of returns: it
will be easier to throw away the GPL2 code and baggage like NML and Tcl, and
start with the relicensable core code and postwar supporting components.
