I went out to the shed, only washed an oz of sugar off because its raining,
fired up a drill, moved the hole for the Z home switch mount about 4"
closer to the chuck, then edited the ini file to change the search and
latch vel signs so it would search away from the chuck to find the open
switches closing point.

Now, I had updated the 2.5.4 on that machine over my ssh session 3 hours
back, so this is the first time I had run this new code, but not the first
time for 2.5.4.

Now the Z axis is dead, motor alive and fairly well locked (driver has idle
current cutdown), no response to the left-right arrow buttons it has used
for about years.

Checked a few things but it occurs to me that I have been using
stepgen.1.**** to drive Z all this time as it is configured for XZ in the
ini. And that used the left/right arrows to jog. Z also isn't responding
to a home axis command (stuck forever in the mode and there is no activity
in stepgen.1, for in's or out's.

I didn't have sense enough to try the pageup-pagedown keys, but there is
not a stepgen even loaded for that.

Is this a bug, and I now have to load a third instance of steggen, and
switch all the hal stuffs to stepgen.2 and use the up/down keys to run it?

On a lathe, thats quite counterintuitive.

Ideas? At this point I'm open.

Cheers, Gene
