I don't think you can change the homing data at run-time.
One option might be to choose a different config depending on whether
absolute position has been lost.
Basically a config _is_ an INI file, and several INI files can share
the same HAL files etc, and live in the same folder.
I can imagine a startup script along the lines of:

linuxcnc home-is-good.ini
else
linuxcnc home-is-not-good.ini
fi
