No, the RPi is not 5V tolerant. So generic parallel port requires level
translation.

It is the Right Kind(TM) of magic employed (and if you look too closely,
then Heisenberg will prevent you from discovering the real magic).

What chip are you using? I did not notice any pull-ups, so I guess it
must be an active translator chip you have.
