This code, as it exists now, only has one subroutine, which is to measure
the length of the mounted tool. That establishes a G92 z offset that
when that operation is finished, is canceled with a g92.2.

I'm assuming MID is a typu, and that you meant MDI? If not, please
describe it in a bit more detail. The named file sub I'd assume would
replace the #<_varname> definitions I have in the header of this file
with its own preset list. I hadn't thought of that, but don't see any
reason it wouldn't work. And there's no good reason it shouldn't call
this routine to do the job once its set the global vars that control
this code. I rather like that as the MDI history would shrink enough
its all on screen and becomes 2 mouse clicks to select and go.

At some point, I will serialize it, probably about the time I've run out
of the first 50 slugs I've already installed the 4mm cap screw into as
the key to the modified R8 collet. Then I'll be doing everthing but the
cut to length on the mill. But since installing that jig on the table
again, its in a different place, and I'm still fine tuning that code.

I have a regular forest of steel and alu sticking up off the table now,
so much I've had to go and steal clamping stuff from the little mill,
I'm out of T nuts from the 52 piece kit I bought for this mill, and
found the T nuts were too wide on the bottom and had to machine them to
size on the small mill. And grizzly claimed it was the right kit for a
G0704. Sure it was... The small mills T nuts turn about 45 degrees and
lock in these wider slots nicely though.

I've considered another small screw inset in the bottom face to serve as
a stop at flush with the end of the collet, with the current screws
location its sitting about 1/8" deep in the collet, and thats costing me
usable tap length on the smaller taps, so I've not worked on the 0-80
taps I have yet. Probably move the key screw up about 4mm. A mistake I
didn't discover until I'd already done the screw install on 52 of them.
The first 6 feet of brass 7/8" rod stock. 6 more ordered, and partially
cut up. $$ but brass does machine nice (if you don't have to anneal it
to keep it straight).

Hindsight, 20-5 everytime, Ken. There is a Murphy's Law corollary I've
seen someplace, like Kilroy, he's everywhere. :) Other than that, its
working perfectly. Ignore that faint knocking sound, you know what it
is. :)

Thanks Ken.
