Actually,... it needs to be asciidoctor. That is in all Debians
too. That will then become a build requirement. I could not get a2x
nor asciidoc to do a proper and nice conversion. Asciidoctor has at least decent styling available and relatively easily customized.
Running as a test in doc/src/man/man9 and a modified/customized stylesheet from original asciidoctor.css:
$ asciidoctor -d manpage -b html --destination-dir=. \
  -a mansource=LinuxCNC -a manmanual='LinuxCNC Documentation' \
  -a stylesheet=linuxcnc.css ./hm2_spix.9.adoc

I can make it look like:
https://www.vagrearg.org/upload/hm2_spix.9.html

Would that be an idea?
