I just know at least one very competent individual who is shying away from the -dev list since he is not a programmer. And there are some many bits that we do not want to care about that are nonetheless important to someone starting up the LiveCD (background, images, icons, pre-installed software, selection of colours, ...) that I think we are losing out as a community if we discuss this here.
